[Comment] HIV care: ART adherence support and cryptococcal screening

Mortality from AIDS is a substantial threat in sub-Saharan Africa, where HIV diagnosis and presentation to care is delayed.1 UNAIDS estimates that 25% of people with HIV infection in low-income and middle-income countries present to care with a CD4 count of less than 100 cells per μL.2 This group is at particularly high risk for opportunistic infections, such as cryptococcal meningitis and tuberculosis, and at high risk of early mortality after starting antiretroviral therapy (ART).1
