[Correspondence] Infective endocarditis and antibiotic prophylaxis

Mark Dayer and colleagues1 report an increase in admissions to hospital with infective endocarditis after the UK National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommended complete cessation of antibiotic prophylaxis in 2008. We are concerned that the identified inflection point in admissions to hospital with infective endocarditis is a statistical artifact that can be anticipated when linear analytic methods are applied to non-linear data.
