[Perspectives] Care: in search of a health agenda

Caregiving is a defining condition of what it means to be human. Its scope is broad and encompasses care of children, care of the sick, care of older people or those who live with disabilities, and care of the dying. Although there have been attempts to bring theoretical frameworks to the concept of care, most contributions have focused on the practical endeavours and tasks of the caregivers—from Florence Nightingale’s still valuable Notes to Nurses up to current writings by health professionals and laypeople which aim to document and improve caregiving practices.
