[Perspectives] Christopher Plowe: a leader in malaria elimination

Being the son of an Episcopal priest, with family roots in the US state of South Dakota, and an undergraduate degree in philosophy, it may seem surprising that Chris Plowe, Professor of Medicine and Director of the Institute for Global Health at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, has evolved into a leading global figure in malaria elimination. Plowe wonders whether the choices he has made stem back to his roots. “My dad had a burning ambition to do missionary work in Africa as a younger man, but a heart condition prevented him from doing so.
