AMA in Action

AMA President Dr Steve Hambleton attended the Close the Gap Campaign Parliamentary Event, during which he had the opportunity to talk with Prime Minister Tony Abbott about the Federal Government’s Close the Gap Report on Indigenous health and wellbeing.

Earlier this month, Dr Hambleton met with Rear Admiral Robyn Walker from the Australian Defence Force and Dr Matthew Cullen from Medibank Private to discuss AMA concerns about the new arrangements for Australian Defence Force health services.

Dr Hambleton The AMA Executive Committee met in Canberra on 13 February, after which Dr Hambleton travelled to Brisbane to launch the 2014 AMA Public Hospital Report Card on 14 February.

Dr Hambleton spoke about the struggles of public hospitals in meeting patient demand and performance targets. At the report launch, Dr Hambleton and Surgeon Dr Chris Turnbull spoke forcefully about the unfair individual contracts the Queensland Government was trying to force on senior public hospital staff.
