The introduction of coronary stents represented an important step forward in the treatment of coronary artery disease. Coupled with the use of dual antiplatelet therapy, the implantation of conventional metal alloy drug-eluting stents can provide safe and reproducible treatment of obstructive disease.1 Contemporary clinical trials typically report stent thrombosis rates under 1% and restenosis rates of less than 5% at 1 year follow-up.1
