[Comment] Health benefits of a carbon tax

Whatever the details of the agreement that emerges from the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change conference in Paris, France, in December, 2015, a key challenge will be how to implement policies to achieve the negotiated reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. Carbon pricing is, according to economic theory, the most efficient way to reduce carbon emissions.1 Such pricing can reflect at least part of the damage resulting from fossil fuel combustion or other sources of greenhouse gas emissions, and thus their true costs to society.
