[Comment] Offline: The uses of disease
Health is good. Disease is bad. So we are taught. The panoply of a doctor’s education and training, indeed the whole hypertrophied industry of medicine, is founded on these two assumptions. But perhaps we should also view disease as an ally, a state to be explored, even cultivated. I do not mean we should tolerate pain or distress. Yet maybe disease creates possibilities for life that might otherwise be denied to us.
