[Comment] Raising African women leaders in global health

Within the health sector, women account for more than 67% of the workforce, making them indispensable as contributors to the delivery of health-care services.1 However, women’s roles as health-care providers are concentrated in lower-level occupations and are poorly represented in management positions and at senior levels. In global health, one possible explanation for this low representation in senior roles is that women often have less time to devote to extensive travel responsibilities for work in the field because they serve as primary caregivers.
