[Comment] Roadmap for cardiovascular prevention trials in chronic kidney disease

Cardiovascular death is a leading cause of death in patients with chronic kidney disease, and the risk of cardiovascular mortality, adjusted for traditional cardiovascular risk factors and albuminuria, is linearly and negatively correlated with renal function.1 In patients with end-stage renal disease who are on dialysis, cardiovascular mortality is 10 to 20 times higher than in the general population and, among adults younger than 45 years, mortality rates are approximately 100 times higher than in the general population.
