[Comment] The Affordable Dialysis Prize steams ahead

There are 2·6 million people with end-stage kidney disease on dialysis in the world.1 As many as 7 million more could need dialysis but are unable to access it and will die prematurely.1 A year on dialysis costs about US$90 000 per person in the USA, and many thousands of dollars in low-income countries—an unaffordable price in places where the annual health spend might be just a few hundred dollars per citizen.2 That amount buys a lot of mosquito nets or rotavirus vaccines.
