[Correspondence] Antibiotic-impregnated catheters for prevention of bloodstream infection

Ruth Gilbert and colleagues (April 23, p 1732)1 recommend widespread use of antibiotic-impregnated central venous catheters to prevent bloodstream infections in paediatric patients. In light of the rapid emergence of antibiotic resistance, the potential benefits of this practice are questionable.2,3
