[Correspondence] Haemodialysis is a major risk factor for infective endocarditis – Authors’ reply

We thank Laura Labriola and Michel Jadoul for highlighting haemodialysis as a well established and important risk factor for infective endocarditis. As discussed in our Seminar,1 patients undergoing haemodialysis are usually affected by staphylococcal infective endocarditis and have associated poor outcomes even with surgical intervention.2,3 Susceptibility to endocarditis in patients undergoing haemodialysis is multifactorial, with bacteraemia most commonly arising secondary to vascular access site infection.
