[Correspondence] Optimum technique to reduce risk of stent thrombosis

The risk of stent thrombosis with bioresorbable vascular scaffolds (BVS) did not reach statistical significance in the patient-level pooled meta-analysis by Gregg Stone and colleagues (March 26, p 1277).1 However, despite use of potent P2Y12 receptor inhibitors in the BVS group, the risk ratio suggested that there might be an increased risk of stent thrombosis with this method (2·09 [95% CI 0·92–4·75], p=0·08). This result is very concerning because stent thrombosis is a catastrophic event with very high risk of morbidity and mortality.
