[Correspondence] Patient outcomes after screw fixation of hip fractures – Authors’ reply
We thank Christian Kammerlander and colleagues for their correspondence, and would like to respond to the issues that they raised. FAITH was a large, pragmatic, multinational trial with an international steering committee. Although we were aware of the totality of previous evidence for internal fixation options, it was a committee decision to include patients that were at least 50 years of age, as we believed equipoise would be maintained within this age range. Furthermore, the suggestion by Kammerlander and colleagues not to include younger patients because older patients had poorer outcomes and higher complication rates does not consider our inclusion criteria of low-energy hip fractures.
