[Correspondence] Preconception health

We read the Lancet Series on preconception health with interest. With mental disorders being the most common complication of pregnancy, it was disappointing that parental mental health in the preconception period was consIdered out of scope.1 No rationale for this was given. Is mental health different from physical health? We believe mental health should have been included because preconception maternal mental disorders are associated with adverse obstetric, neonatal, and childhood physical and mental health outcomes2 that will continue to affect individuals throughout their lifetime.
