[Correspondence] Reforming public and global health research in Germany

In an Editorial (June 27, p 2548)1 The Lancet editors positively commented on the report2 from three national academies about public health in Germany, and suggested universal health coverage and social protection as a thematic priority for a stronger German contribution to global health.1 This proposal is in line with Germany’s stated support for universal health coverage in the post-2015 context3 and provides an opportunity for substantive interdisciplinary collaboration and to pursue a needs-driven rather than a technology-driven, personalised, and medicalised agenda.
