[Correspondence] Refugees in the eastern Mediterranean region

We are glad that The Lancet devoted one of its Editorials (Sept 12, p 1013) to refugees,1 one of the most pressing moral issues facing the world, with massive consequences for the health and wellbeing of millions of displaced people. The Editorial appropriately demanded a stronger response and presence from health institutions, and expressed disappointment about their “weak or non-existent” voice. In particular, the editorial concluded that “The emotion of WHO’s response is balanced with a pragmatic call to action…But still, professional bodies have a duty to lead the health community with a much more muscular and engaged response.”
