[Correspondence] The challenges of using the Hospital Frailty Risk Score

We applaud Thomas Gilbert and colleagues (May 5, p 1775)1 for their Article on the stratification of older people—a research area that should be of high priority. Existing methods to detect frailty in the acute-care setting have challenges, ranging from concerns over the reliability of subjective measures to unsuitability for clinical settings, and absence of objective use for patient care and comprehensiveness.2 We note, with interest, how our method for coding frailty syndromes in administrative data was used in the study, and how the outcomes validated our previous findings.
