[Editorial] Gun violence in America: a national crisis
Last week, President Barack Obama explicitly argued the health case against gun violence. Calling guns “one of the greatest threats to public health”, he wrote in the New York Times that, “Every year, more than 30 000 Americans have their lives cut short by guns. Suicides. Domestic violence. Gang shootouts. Accidents. Hundreds of thousands of Americans have lost brothers and sisters, or buried their own children.” With less than a year left in office, Obama has chosen gun control as his domestic political priority.
