The room was full to overflowing. This hastily arranged session, held at the European Public Health Conference in Vienna last week, was branded a “late breaker”, and entitled “The results of the US presidential elections and public health in Europe and in the world.” David Stuckler led his audience through the unexpected events of the previous week—unexpected, that is, to public health professionals, 99% of whom, he suggested, would have supported Hillary Clinton. Stuckler asked, “Is Trump really THAT bad?” He concluded that the reality was, indeed, “grim”.
