[Perspectives] Judith Rodin: on the path to resilience in planetary health
“Planetary health is the big idea for this century.” So says Judith Rodin, President of the Rockefeller Foundation, the body that supported The Rockefeller Foundation–Lancet Commission on Planetary Health, which now reports in The Lancet. Last century saw Rockefeller nurture previous big ideas, such as the emergence of public health and the Green Revolution. So Rodin can claim to speak with some authority. “We have a loss of biodiversity”, she points out. “We’re seeing ocean acidification and poor air quality along with other things that influence human health.” And big problems need big ideas.
