[Perspectives] Vincent and Edvard

The Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh (1853–90) and the Norwegian artist Edvard Munch (1863–1944) both embarked on their artistic careers in 1880; they both furthered their artistic studies in Paris, but never met. From about 1900, Van Gogh’s and Munch’s works were increasingly exhibited side by side, and their artistic trajectories blazed the way for the development of modern art in the 20th century. And now at Amsterdam’s Van Gogh Museum Munch: Van Gogh explores striking similarities in the lives and art of these two men.
